For many dental procedures you undergo, our caring dentist can provide you with local anesthesia to settle your nerves and ease the pain. This is safe sedation we are happy to offer to give you a comfortable dental experience. We offer two types of numbing injections to insert this anesthetic:
- Block injection: Numbs an entire region of your mouth
- Infiltration injection: Numbs a smaller area
These are usually injected through a needle into your cheek or gum to help numb the area and minimize pain. When receiving an injection, our dentist will use air or cotton to dry out your mouth and swab the area with a gel to numb your skin. Many patients say they do not feel the needle, and others say it feels like a small sting.
Please be aware local anesthesia can last up to several hours, so be careful when chewing, especially if you have had a child undergo this sedation. Children may play with the numbed areas and cause harm to themselves without feeling pain. Make sure to watch your child closely to avoid any mishaps.
Before you receive an anesthetic, please speak with Dr. Bruno Giglio and team about your medical history. We need to know about allergies you have or medications you are taking to ensure you will be safe while using local anesthesia.
We invite you to give us a call at 586-254-3860 to schedule an appointment at MI Smile Team and ask us any questions about local anesthesia in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
